Introduction to The Hindsight Bridge, by Paul Walter Hauser

I’ve always been a day-dreamer and mind wanderer. Not enough for it to be considered an ailment – just enough to make me a writer.

When I met Robbie Pieschke, we were working as baristas at a café in Saginaw, Michigan. There was not a whole lot binding our friendship in its early stages, aside from a mutual comfortability. That almost made it better. Our bond was based in who we were more than what we did or liked.

As we hung out and got know one another, we shared stories. Some were short, comedic anecdotes to see if he would laugh. Some were relationship struggles to see if I would feel. And throughout the laughter and tears, we discovered that we both had our own specific knack for relaying life.

In our attempts to turn the oral to written, we skimmed through a movie idea, a novel, a TV pilot script, as well as friendly notes when encountering each other’s side projects.

Nothing ever fully evolved from the cozy, dare we admit “lazy” writing sessions. The reason for “The Hindsight Bridge” came about as a result of us having a genuine desire to not only write but complete, and to not only complete, but to share.

“The Hindsight Bridge” will consist of short stories written by the two of us - separately, sometimes collectively. Concurrently, we’ll be joined by friends with a similar passion or background in storytelling, as long as they share our enthusiasm for new voices waiting to be heard, new places that have never been seen, and the nuggets of truth and discovery that move us to the point of pen and pad or fingers to letters – brimming with recollection.

For without this outlet, this projection of heart and mind, our inspiration would simply dissolve. Thus begins our venture into that which we almost forgot.
